Clinical Assistant Professor of K-6 Literacy Education
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Literacy and Language Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue
University seeks applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor of K-6 Literacy Education. The successful
candidate will teach elementary literacy methods courses as part of the Elementary Education program,
collaborate with field-based school partners, mentor junior instructors and graduate students, and teach
related graduate and undergraduate courses in Elementary Education, as necessary.
This position is a 9-month academic year, clinical track position with a 3-3 teaching load.
Reappointments occur in 3-year contractual terms. Clinical appointments are non-tenure track but with
the potential for promotion in rank. The position also includes the possibility of summer employment.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinating elementary literacy methods courses
Collaborating with other faculty in the Elementary Education program
Teaching pre-service teachers enrolled in the Elementary Education program
Mentoring junior instructors and graduate students
Maintaining relationships with field-based school partners
Participating in program administration and recruitment
This position requires an on-campus, face-to-face presence.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Earned doctorate in Elementary Education or closely related field
Background or experience in elementary literacy instruction, assessment, and curriculum
integration in K-6 classrooms
Strong written and oral communication skills
Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience at the K-6 level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and experience of current elementary literacy trends and practices
Knowledge of K-6 U.S. Classroom pedagogy and practice
Experience with pre-service teacher preparation
